Twelve corpses in the basement! That is the proud tally of sisters Abby and Martha Brewster. The two charming older ladies are extremely popular with neighbors and fellow citizens in their village, as they are the embodiment of charity!
However, no one suspects a thing: the two pursue an extremely murderous hobby. They send elderly, single gentlemen to their graves using poisoned elderberry wine – in order to “bring them closer to God.”
During a visit, their nephew Mortimer accidentally finds a corpse in the apartment and discovers the ladies' secret. Then his long-lost brother Jonathan appears, himself a serial killer on the run from the police. The entanglements and absurd complications take their course …
The most famous crime comedy of all time is staged as a fast-paced interplay of hand and mouth puppets that will literally make a person “break into a sweat.”
