About this event
A moving story about the most famous Liberec native, the King of Comedians
Tomáš Dianiška A new play by Tomáš Dianiška, who returns to the Liberec stage after a few years as both author and director. This time, he turns his attention to one of the most famous Liberec natives, Vlasta Burian. The life of the "King of Comedians" was full of major turning points. He experienced a steep ascent and enormous popularity, which were replaced by a fall to rock bottom and a sad end to his life in undignified conditions. When the Germans closed all theaters in the country on September 1, 1944, Burian lost his beloved audience overnight, but things soon got even worse. After the war, he was accused of collaboration, expelled from the acting community, evicted from his villa, and ended up behind bars. The aging and tired Burian returned to acting only after a six-year break, but he was never the same energy-filled comedian again. These fateful escapades are the fundamental building blocks of Dianiška's new play. As we know his authorial poetics, however, he will offer us a very distinctive and original view of all these events, which will certainly include plenty of humor, but also many chilling dramatic situations.
