In the final days of the GDR, he launched his own music career in Berlin with his band DIE ZÖLLNER – at pretty much the same time, Manuel Schmid was born in Altenburg. The German attempt at a societal alternative was already a distant memory when Schmid discovered the soundtrack of the East for himself. This discovery became an obsession, making him the frontman and creative mind of the STERN COMBO MEISSEN.
Friends for many years through mutual admiration, their occasional jam sessions have evolved into a permanent ensemble. Together with André Gensicke on keys and Marek Arnold on saxophone and clarinet, they perform the musical heritage of the East in a wonderful, minimalist, yet emphatic way. Not a nostalgia show, but one filled with the highest level of emotion and respect. In short: A labor of love.
