Erich Kästner: "The 13 Months and Other Inconsistencies"

About this event

A musical and lyrical evening for the new year. By and featuring the writer Erich Kästner.

"The 13 Months" is considered one of Erich Kästner's most idyllic, yet least-known works. This cycle of poems was created in the 1950s. The year is small and still lying in its cradle. And it is not just nature that blooms and fades; humanity, too, has its own troubles. The little year dreams of peace. Or perhaps of war? Love outlasts even the loud vacationers, and shooting stars fall gently into the somewhere, like tears without sadness. The year grows old and knows its final day. Thus, the months sharpen our gaze, both outward and inward. But: those who are satisfied with twelve cannot be helped!
Political texts by this contentious writer and biographical snapshots bridge the gap during this evening to a social and political level that remains as relevant as ever.
Julia Boegershausen and Björn Bewerich present this unknown, distinctive work by Erich Kästner in 13 poem-songs, which were set to music by composer Manfred Schmitz for Gisela May, bringing the writer Kästner to life with his childhood in his pocket, his love for development, and his questions about morality.
