Ganna Ensemble

GANNA weaves together old Ukrainian folk songs with contemporary jazz in a way that is simultaneously fragile and exceptionally powerful. The distinctive voice of singer Ganna Gryniva, unique arrangements, and an international ensemble of top musicians create a concert full of emotion, improvisation, and a deep respect for musical tradition.

Singer, composer, and arranger Ganna Gryniva was born in Ukraine, but has lived in Germany since her teenage years, where she studied philosophy in Leipzig and jazz singing at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT in Weimar. In her work, she connects two worlds – a deep knowledge of Ukrainian folk tradition and contemporary European jazz. Her music grows from her personal collection of folk songs, which she recorded while traveling through Ukrainian villages, in the Carpathians, and around Kyiv.

The album Home presents an original interpretation of these melodies. Ancient songs about love, departure, war, home, and hope are given new musical life through modern jazz arrangements, improvisation, and sensitive vocal work. Although inspired by folklore, it is not a reconstruction of tradition, but a contemporary artistic interpretation of it. Ganna's music feels both intimate and urgent, and has received extraordinary acclaim from European critics.

At the Mandava Jazz festival, she will perform with her international quintet, whose members come from Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, France, and Austria. Their concert promises an exceptional fusion of folklore, modern jazz, and free improvisation – music that transcends national and genre boundaries.
