The Hejnic New York Trio brings together three extraordinary jazz personalities from the Czech Republic, Austria, and New York. Drummer Otto Hejnic is bringing a new international lineup with pianist Alan Bartuš and double bassist Way C, who are among the most prominent talents of the young global jazz generation. They will also be presenting their brand-new album at Mandava Jazz.
The Hejnic New York Trio represents a new chapter in the work of drummer and composer Otto Hejnic. Following successful projects with Brian Charette, Peter Bernstein, and Osian Roberts, he now arrives with an international trio that connects the Czech jazz scene with a young generation of musicians growing up right in New York. They will also be ceremoniously introducing their new album at the Mandava Jazz festival.
Pianist Alan Bartuš is one of the most prominent talents of his generation. A native of Slovakia living between Vienna and New York, he studied at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, became a semifinalist in the Herbie Hancock International Piano Competition, and has collaborated with figures such as Gregory Hutchinson and Jeff “Tain” Watts. Double bassist Way C, a New York native and graduate of the same school, studied under legends Buster Williams and Ron Carter and performs regularly with, among others, singer Samara Joy, winner of seven Grammy Awards.
Otto Hejnic has long been one of the most respected Czech jazz drummers. He is the author of nine albums, and his work has been heard on stages across Europe, the USA, Mexico, and Asia. In this new project, however, he is not building on the past, but on the dialogue between three musicians of different generations and cultures. Audiences can look forward to contemporary original jazz built on spontaneous improvisation, mutual listening, and an extraordinary level of instrumental mastery.
