The Libor Šmoldas Quartet will present their new project Sorry, Miles!, dedicated to the music and legacy of Miles Davis. Well-known jazz standards will be performed in new arrangements and contexts, revisiting the stories behind compositions whose authorship is still debated today. The concert will feature modern mainstream jazz performed by a quartet of top-tier musicians.
Libor Šmoldas is one of the most prominent Czech jazz guitarists, active on both the domestic and international scenes for many years. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with many significant figures in world jazz, including George Mraz, Bobby Watson, James Morrison, Adam Nussbaum, Jeff Ballard, and Ondřej Pivec. He regularly tours in Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, and has eleven original albums to his credit.
For the Mandava Jazz festival, he brings his latest project, Sorry, Miles!, which commemorates the upcoming centenary of the birth of Miles Davis. The program revisits famous compositions often attributed to this jazz legend, revealing their true authors and stories with both a fresh perspective and musical ingenuity. In addition to well-known standards like Four, Tune Up, or Solar, original compositions inspired by Davis's musical legacy will also be performed.
The concert is built on the precise interplay of four experienced musicians who combine virtuosity with natural musicality and a joy for improvisation. The result is modern mainstream jazz full of energy, ideas, and mutual musical communication.
