Kafka Band transforms the world of Franz Kafka into an impressive concert on the border of alternative rock, literature, and theater. The musical-literary project by writer Jaroslav Rudiš, Jaromír 99, and leading Czech musicians presents a selection of tracks inspired by the novels The Castle, Amerika, and The Trial. Linguistically, it is an original fusion of Czech and German.
Kafka Band is one of the most original musical projects on the contemporary Czech scene. It arose from the collaboration of writer Jaroslav Rudiš, artist and musician Jaromír 99, and a group of experienced musicians known from the bands Tata Bojs, Priessnitz, Umakart, and Letní kapela. Together, they have created a unique project that connects literature, rock music, and theatrical imagery.
Over the last few years, three albums inspired by the novels The Castle, Amerika, and The Trial have been created. Kafka Band does not attempt to set literature to music in the traditional sense. Instead, it creates an original concert work from Kafka's texts, in which Czech, German, and English intertwine, along with a dark atmosphere and absurd humor, and powerful rock compositions with literary imagination. The project has received extraordinary acclaim not only in the Czech Republic but also in Germany and Austria, where it has been performed, among other things, in connection with theatrical productions of Kafka's novels.
The Kafka Band Plays Kafka program presents a representative selection of tracks from all three albums. The audience can expect a concert that is not just a musical performance, but an intense encounter with the work of one of the most significant Prague authors of the 20th century. In the setting of the Three-Country Corner, where Czech and German culture have naturally intertwined for centuries, this project gains extraordinary symbolic power.
