Pierre Laurent Aimard plays piano music by Johann Sebastian Bach and György Kurtág
French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard brings no fewer than 33 pieces for his recital in the Saal der Brüdergemeine Herrnhut. Most of them are extremely short, however – they are miniatures by the Hungarian composer György Kurtág, who celebrated his 100th birthday in good health in Budapest this past February. Aimard intertwines Kurtág's miniatures with excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach's "The Well-Tempered Clavier" and "The Art of Fugue." The concert offers a rare opportunity to experience the correspondences and tensions between these two composers, separated by two and a half centuries, played by arguably the most competent interpreter in the world for this repertoire.
