About this event
Galas are a relic from times when glamorous public celebrations were produced with great effort and switched on or attended by millions of people. There were gigantic decorations, orchestras, ballets, international star guests, gold rain, wind machines, and elegantly graying hosts with devious humor.
Now, when Christoph Marthaler stages a gala, people are indeed honored in the gap between the overflowing bouquets of flowers on the right and left of the stage, but in reality, the gala is exceptionally occupied entirely with itself, celebrating the very essence of the gala in all imaginable sounds, forms, and colors. In Marthaler's gala, the gala celebrates a musical feast of simultaneity! Past, present, and future of this wonderful art form merge into a single first last second.
A co-production by Internationales Sommerfestival Kampnagel, Lausitz Festival, and Symphoniker Hamburg.
