An absurd comedy by Václav Havel, exploring themes of corporate communication.
Careers are built or destroyed through the artificial bureaucratic language of 'ptydepe'; this fabricated language of misinformation is not just a source of misunderstanding, but also a tool of oppression and coercion. Havel depicts the office workers' power struggles for positions and privileges with brilliant hyperbole and compelling humor.
The urge to manipulate others and the ability to cast aside all inhibitions for career advancement were not just a privilege of the 60s generation. Today, although we are free, we demonstrate a talent for making ourselves unfree through our ambitions or greed. And being able to laugh heartily at what is actually more or less monstrous can be very liberating.
