Namibia Through the Eyes of a Botanist

The lecture summarizes several botanical trips through Namibia. The author himself specializes in succulent plants and, in general, in xerophytic plant communities.

The lecture will present the most interesting plant taxa of Namibia, such as the mystical Welwitschia mirabilis or the little-known, rare, and completely bizarre Adenia pechuelii. The lecture will also showcase iconic animals of Etosha National Park, which is one of the most beautiful protected reserves in all of Southern Africa. As the author has also visited the wildest areas of Namibia, he will offer insight into the lives of one of the last indigenous ethnic groups living in this region. This is the distinct Himba tribe, which is currently undergoing a significant clash with modern civilization, as it penetrates even these remote places.

The lecture will take place from 5 PM in the cinema hall; admission is voluntary.
