About this event
The main theme since Petr Bařinka's arrival on the contemporary art scene is the world of comics, computer games, and design. The exhibition is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am–1 pm and 2:30 pm–5 pm, or by appointment. Admission to the gallery is free.
All these themes are united by a reflection of contemporary pop culture, whether the works are more abstract, epic, or figurative, always hovering between dream and reality. Through the form of a game, we find ourselves in a world of colors, shapes, traces, and codes. The combination of seemingly naive fairy-tale elements with more serious themes evokes unsettling images and fantasies. This materialized dream and dreaming is the result of the author's state of mind, a spiritual experience that has no rational explanation. Other elements in Petr Bařinka's work include precise geometric patterns as a prefiguration of the concreteness of the natural world, and vector paintings linked to the aesthetics of 70s and 80s computer games. The artist suitably complements the atmosphere of the painting with monochrome processing, whether in black or radiant gold. Petr Bařinka also utilizes non-painterly elements—lines made of wool yarn—and experiments with various materials and techniques, but behind the diversity of material forms, a clear, unmistakable signature is always recognizable. The author's compulsive need to create a particular work, at a certain time in a certain place, thus opens up space for the realization of images that imprint themselves on our memory and develop our imagination for interpreting reality.
