The Future of the Past: 450 Years of the Mining Community in the Jizera Mountains

17. 10. 2026 · +1 dateKrobicaPL

About this event

In the heart of the Jizera Mountains, a history was hidden, waiting for its moment. A story about work, people, and a decision that changed the region for centuries to come. It was here, exactly 450 years ago, that the Schaffgotsch family initiated the extraction of cassiterite - a precious tin ore, bringing the Jizera mines to the forefront of European mining centers.

And we, on October 17-18 - this one special anniversary weekend - will celebrate this unique time.

What awaits you?

Anniversary tours of the historic adits of St. John and St. Leopold in a special and unique format.
A meeting with Georgius Agricola - author of the famous bible of mining.
The Jizera St. John's Fair, with a zone featuring local products and crafts.
Educational walks, field workshops, and an Anniversary Orienteering Rally.
A commemorative tin casting for every visitor.
A traditional Elixir of Happiness brewed according to an old miner's recipe.

Anniversary tickets:
Regular ticket: 65.00 PLN/person
Reduced ticket: 60 PLN/person (available for children 6-18, students up to 26, seniors 60+, and persons with disabilities).

A surprise for residents of the Mirsk Municipality!
The first 100 residents of the municipality will take part in the tour completely free of charge. Special wristbands can be picked up in person from October 1 to October 16, 2026, at the Tourist Information Point in Mirsk.
