400 meters that hurt
At Ještěd, runners face a sprint straight up the ski jump, which combines speed and a steep incline over 400 meters. The incline reaches up to 35%, making the course one of the toughest of its kind. “What makes it specific is that it’s a relatively short distance. You can see the finish line, but to get there, you have to dig deep,” describes the winner of the last Czech edition in Liberec in 2021 Jakub Šiarnik, who has been racing since 2018 and has already collected six victories. He won his first Red Bull 400 victory right here in Liberec in 2019, and he would love to add a third triumph here this year. The race is open to everyone over 18, regardless of fitness level, with categories for men, women, and relays. In individual categories, participants will run qualifying heats for the full 400 meters, from which the winners advance directly to the final. These will be joined by the next fastest runners across all heats based on their time. Relays (4 × 100 meters – men’s, women’s, and mixed teams) will run straight as a final without qualification. According to Šiarnik, the race breaks in the second half of the course. “The key is the transition over the takeoff edge, where you need to push hard again and increase the pace toward the finish line. It’s also a psychological moment – if you don’t start too fast, you know you can make it,” he adds. How to register Registration for the race opens on May 19 at 12:00 PM at redbull.cz/400. The entry fee is 1,590 CZK for individuals and 2,590 CZK for four-person relays. The race has long enjoyed strong participation in the Czech Republic, and the high interest was confirmed by the last edition, which saw more than 1,200 runners and filled its capacity quickly.
The road to the start also leads through a spring challenge New for this year's edition is the Red Bull 400 Challenge on the Strava platform, which will take place from April 27 to May 17, 2026. Participants are tasked with gaining a total of 1,200 elevation meters over three weeks. By completing the challenge, they will receive a 400 CZK discount on the individual entry fee.
