Longing and Transfiguration
About this event
2nd Chamber Concert with String Sextets by Brahms and Schoenberg
Music has always offered space not just for fantasies, but also for unlived dreams and longings. In his second string sextet, Brahms bids farewell to his almost-fiancée Agathe von Siebold, having previously avoided a commitment in keeping with his motto "Free, but lonely" (Frei, aber einsam).
Experience how the bond of love between two people can be stronger than the seemingly immutable social norms of the time in Schoenberg's sextet "Transfigured Night" (Verklärte Nacht) - late Romantic program music based on the poem of the same name by Richard Dehmel.
