The third part of this mini-lecture series will be devoted to those members of the Přemyslid dynasty who made a significant contribution to the formation and development of our state. It will recall not only the princes and kings who ‘shaped’ the country’s territorial form, often through bloody means, but also the rulers who gave the Czech state its first laws, supported economic development, stabilised the state administration, strove to secure a firm position for their domains in Central Europe, or made a significant mark on imperial politics. Nor will it overlook those whose actions threatened and weakened the Czech lands, and who, through their blindness, selfishness and desire for absolute power, brought the state to the brink of collapse on more than one occasion.
