Leila and her coach Maryam are participating in the Judo World Championships, where they have a great chance of winning Iran's first gold medal. However, everything begins to crumble the moment the Iranian Islamic regime interferes in the sport. They force Leila to withdraw from the competition, leaving her with the most important decision of her life.
This sports drama takes place in an isolated world, a labyrinth of dimly lit corridors, offices, and gymnasiums. These claustrophobic spaces only underscore the oppressive nature of the situations in which Leila and Maryam find themselves. The close-up match sequences suggestively capture Leila's tenacious battle in the arena as well as her moral struggle against a repressive political regime.
