EB Davis brings authentic American blues straight from its cradle to Mandava Jazz. A native of Arkansas who grew up in Memphis and later became part of the New York and European blues scene, he will be performing with his international quartet. An evening full of raw energy, groove, powerful ballads, and honest rhythm & blues awaits you.
EB Davis is one of the distinct figures on the contemporary blues scene. He was born in Arkansas, grew up in Memphis – a city that is the cradle of American blues – and in the 1960s moved to New York, where he performed with his band, the Soulgroovers, and shared stages with legends such as B.B. King, Wilson Pickett, Isaac Hayes, and Millie Jackson. In the early 1980s, he traveled to Europe with the vocal group The Drifters, where he later settled in Berlin. Throughout his career, he has received numerous significant awards, including the title of Blues Ambassador to the State of Arkansas and the Sonny Payne Award for Blues Excellence, which was also received by B.B. King.
He is bringing his international quartet to the Mandava Jazz festival, with a program that combines original compositions with carefully selected blues standards and impressive ballads. The hallmark of the concert is a strong groove, spontaneous energy, and an authentic expression rooted directly in the American blues tradition. Alongside EB Davis, pianist and singer Nina T. Davis will also perform, whose distinctive voice and unique piano accompaniment add another dimension to the quartet.
