František Skála’s public space
About this event
Film screening followed by a discussion
On a playful journey through public spaces with one of the most versatile Czech artists, František Skála, it is possible to see the world in a different light. With humour, seriousness and self-irony, the visual artist, performer and musician offers a unique glimpse behind many imaginary doors, behind which lie beauty in imperfection, poetry in the ordinary, handprints in the passage of time, and the joy of creation as a way of life. Skála’s creative energy is palpable throughout the process of creating the monumental sculpture of the dog Vulpes Gott – from the creation of the model to the boat journey down the Elbe to the opening in Dresden. The narrative weaves together the artist’s diaries and objects in public spaces, including his first sculpture in the Veltrusy Castle Park, Prastánek and the Garden of Eden at Sluňákov. The film features František Skála’s friends, the band Třaskavá směs, the Provodovjané brass band and the philosopher Miroslav Petříček. Skála, a Renaissance man, is also known for his work at the Divadlo Sklep theatre, the band Tvrdohlaví, the group Tros Sketos and M.T.O. Universal.
