Exhibition: Ivana Šrámková - Statues and Paintings

Glass artist Ivana Šrámková, a follower of the Stanislav Libenský school, specializes in mould-melted glass sculpture. Her work can be divided into two main categories:

Her small sculptures primarily explore themes from the animal kingdom.

In her large, technologically-demanding pieces, meanwhile, she captures figurative forms, yet abstracts their shapes to create archetypal, monumental works. Through this figurative, representative form, she responds to the speed and changeability of the times in which we live, seeking certainty and a return to clarity.

Ivana Šrámková has alternated between periods of glassmaking and painting for much of her career. Her paintings are just as convincingly monumental, bearing the hallmarks of an individual style and the vivid touch of the artist's hand. The intensively-applied paint in her expressive figurative paintings reveals a logical connection to the painted glass of her early period. While her paintings—inspired by paper roses from fairground shooting galleries—are characterized by an economical style free of unnecessary detail, they nevertheless possess undeniable artistic quality and remarkable vital energy, which carries hidden messages that encourage reflection. Her meditative pictorial compositions, where direct ties to observed reality disappear, provide viewers space for their own feelings.

This exhibition of the work of Ivana Šrámková is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to Galerie Nisa Factory to discover in more detail the exceptional talent of an artist who, while rooted in this region, is nonetheless celebrated by experts and the general public far beyond our country's borders.
