About this event
Play by Sigrid Behrens | World Premiere | Ages 6 and up
Änne doesn't speak. Her parents are helpless and desperate. Änne doesn't speak – and all the adults have an opinion about it: Her parents argue, the doctor doesn't know what to do because Änne is healthy, perfectly healthy. Even the kindergarten teacher has no problem with it, because Änne is quiet amidst all the shouting of the other children. Änne doesn't speak – but she loves words. She collects them in a treasure chest and finds them too precious to waste. There are also people who understand Änne without many words at all. Animals certainly do.
One day Änne meets Bo. Bo speaks, he actually speaks a lot, so much so that the truth sometimes falls by the wayside. But Änne is drawn to Bo and Bo to her, because both of them are different from the others. And that has to do with words. Together, they discover what making words is all about – regardless of whether there are many words or just a few.
With Making Words, Sigrid Behrens has written a poetic, artful, language-loving, and articulate play for people aged six and up – about language and stillness, speaking and silence, and about the love of words.
