About this venue

Perched on a basalt cliff above the River Smědá in the town of Frýdlant, Frýdlant Castle and Chateau is one of the most significant heritage landmarks in northern Czechia.

This sprawling complex seamlessly fuses a medieval castle dating back to the mid-13th century with a Renaissance chateau that was systematically expanded and remodelled over the centuries that followed.

Frýdlant opened its doors to the public in 1801, making it the very first "castle museum" in Central Europe. Today, visitors can explore the authentically-preserved interiors, complete with original furniture, paintings, porcelain, and fine historical artifacts. Guided tours also visit the exquisite Renaissance Saint Anne’s Chateau Chapel, alongside access to Frýdlant Tower, which rewards those who climb it with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
