Sixteen Ukrainian artists exhibit their work in Zittau.

The war in Ukraine has far-reaching consequences for artists too.
Losing their familiar environment, studios, and social networks severely restricts their creativity. Now, though, it is vital that we develop familiar forms of expression and somehow articulate the speechlessness caused by the realities of war.

I have been friends with Iren (one of the exhibiting artists) on Instagram for quite some time, and I felt a little disappointed when she showed me an invitation to an exhibition in Hamburg. When I remarked that it would be wonderful to follow that up with another exhibition in Zittau on her way back to Ukraine, she replied with a simple "Of course!". So, all I could do was to make it happen. That was back on 5th July 2022.

So, to work! Find some exhibition space, check! Get some support, check! Apply for funding, check! Get a rejection, check! Find a way to keep going anyway, check!

Because for me, it's above all about the ART.

You can judge the results for yourself, all made possible by the outstanding contribution of artists and friends. I hope you take away with you a wealth of inspiring impressions—because without them, I won't let you leave the building anyway!
