Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, Mimoň

According to the town chronicles, it was back in 1651 that Jan Putz von Adlersthurn – then an imperial councillor of the Court Chamber – purchased the estates of Mimoň and Děvín. He had travelled to Rome and from there to Jerusalem, seeking out the places of Christ's suffering and death so sacred to all Christians. And it was there that he came up with the idea of building a replica of the Holy Sepulchre back home, so that believers there too could draw inspiration from it.

However, putting the idea into practice proved far from straightforward. During his second journey to Jerusalem, Putz fell seriously ill, and after his return home the Thirty Years' War made it impossible to carry out the planned construction. When Jan Putz lay dying in 1660, he made his eldest son, Jan František Edmund, promise at his deathbed that he would build the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre in Mimoň.

Construction began in 1665 under the baton of renowned architect Giulio Broggio and was completed in 1667. The chapel was then ceremonially consecrated a year later.
