New Synagogue, Liberec

There was no synagogue in Liberec in the post-war years, with the city's Jewish community first gathering in a prayer room on Matoušova Street, until this was taken from them in 1964 and replaced with cramped, ill-suited premises at Slavíčkova Street 2. After some considerable effort, the original building at Matoušova Street 21 was returned to the community in 1995, and the Jews of Liberec worshipped there again until 9 November 2000, when a new prayer room opened in the city library building, known as Stavba smíření (Building of Reconciliation).
