Rollberg (Ralsko)
About this venue
Ralsko Hill (696 m) stands at the heart of the nature reserve of the very same name. Thick forests, steep rock faces, an abandoned quarry, and the remnants of an old military zone lend this area a truly unique atmosphere. The fact that the area was closed to the public for decades means that the surrounding landscape has remained almost untouched.
The trail to the summit climbs through deep woods, passing rocky cliffs, relics of the area's military past, and an old quarry. And reaching the peak, behold the ruins of the medieval Ralsko Castle, and the breathtaking panoramic views of the entire landscape they provide.
Distance & time: around 9 km, 3 hours, moderate
Start: Brniště or Noviny pod Ralskem (Czech Republic)
Highlights: volcanic peak, sweeping views, peaceful forests
Tips: there is nowhere on the trail to buy food or drink (so take your own with you), stay on the marked paths (protected area)
