Municipal Museums Zittau

The Städtische Museen Zittau (Zittau Municipal Museums) are among the most important cultural institutions in the city, conveying the history of Zittau and the Upper Lusatia region. They are located in the former Franciscan monastery, the history of which dates back to the Middle Ages.

The exhibitions are divided into a permanent collection and regularly changing special exhibitions. The permanent exhibition is dedicated to urban history, art, and the everyday life of the region.

The museum complex also includes the Church of the Holy Cross, which houses the Great Zittau Lenten Veil of 1472, one of the most significant surviving Lenten veils in Europe.
