Otto's Encyclopedia (Ottův slovník naučný), in Volume XIX, page 37, offers this brief note on Stará Paka: Paka Stará, a village in the same district (i.e., as the previously mentioned Nová Paka), with parish and post office at Nová Paka; 180 houses, 1,572 inhabitants, of whom 15 German (according to the 1890 census); the filial church of St Lawrence (a parish church as of 1384), in its present form dating from 1760; a five-grade school, telegraph, and a railway station on the Austrian North-Western Railway (Chlumec-Poříčí) and the North-South German Connecting Railway (Josefov-Turnov); a textile factory, producing chiefly satins, drill fabric, and piqués; a brickworks, two mills, a bustling weaving industry, carried out both as a cottage industry and in factories. — Cf.
