Sýpka Lemberk (The Lemberk Granary)

Sýpka Lemberk is a Baroque building near the town of Jablonné v Podještědí, in the picturesque setting of the Liberec Region, right next to Chateau Lemberk.

The granary (formerly building no. 12) dates back to the 17th century and originally belonged to the chateau. The outbuildings were demolished in the second half of the 20th century, and a few structural adjustments were made to the ceilings and roof truss. But apart from that, the building retains its authentic exterior and interior appearance.

The walled structure of sandstone blocks is built on a rectangular floor plan and is covered by a gable roof with beaver tail tiles and seven bull's-eye windows on both sides.

Today, the granary is an exceptional space for art, culture, and education. It is part of Happy Materials s. r. o., alongside the Prague-based Galerie Kuzebauch, the MatériO’ Prague library of materials, and the magazine Material Times.

This project is about more than simply restoring the building to preserve its architectural heritage; the idea is to open the place to the public, to revitalize it, to fill it with new purpose. Meaning that Sýpka Lemberk is shifting from the original grain store to a storehouse of art and culture. It is a venue for exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances, community gatherings, specialized workshops, demonstrations of traditional crafts, talks, and discussions.
