CXI Institute

The Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies, and Innovation (CXI) is a university institute at the Technical University of Liberec, and one of the most successful centres for applied research in the Czech Republic. Its primary mission is to bridge the gap between academia and real-world industry, taking new scientific findings straight from the lab into commercial and public use.

CXI builds on Liberec's long-standing tradition in technical and materials specializations, backed by modern, accredited laboratories and a top-level team of experts, including researchers from abroad.

The institute's research and activities focus on three key areas:

1. Nanomaterials in natural sciences: developing and testing nanomaterials for cleaning up contaminated water and soil, microbial safety, advanced purification technologies, and applications in biology, medicine, and cosmetics.

2. Competitive mechanical engineering: developing new mechatronic systems, advanced machine design, drive units, 3D printing technologies, and materials engineering.

3. Systems integration: bringing together information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), visual measurement, simulation, and automation for Industry 4.0.

CXI TUL is a key partner for both businesses and the public sector, running dozens, sometimes hundreds, of national and international projects each year, including projects under programmes like Horizon Europe and Interreg, and providing a full range of services, from lab-testing ideas through to prototype design and production optimization.
