Exhibition: State Secret! The Zittwerke. An Armaments Company in National Socialism
About this event
The Zittwerke were a front company for the Junkers aircraft works from Dessau. Here, Jumo engines for the Me262, a jet-powered fighter aircraft of the Wehrmacht, were manufactured. The relocation of production to the Zittau region was initiated as a reaction to the bombing of Central Germany and was pursued with great energy in 1943/44. To this end, numerous factories were confiscated, and a barracks in Kleinschönau (Sieniawka) was expanded as the core of the production complex. Under inhumane conditions, production was launched here by thousands of prisoners at the end of 1944.
The exhibition presents the history of the Zittwerke in the context of the Third Reich's armaments production. Original exhibits from the engine production sector, plans and documents of the various facilities, and numerous eyewitness accounts are on display. For the first time, scale models of the original condition are being presented.
The exhibition is in DE, PL, and CZ.
