The combination of Dan Bárta’s extraordinary voice and the Robert Balzar Trio has been a highlight of the Czech jazz scene since 1999. This acoustic project connects jazz, pop, and original arrangements of world-famous songs with exceptional sensitivity and musical synergy. The concert will feature virtuosity, emotion, and space for improvisation, all within the chamber sound of this top-tier trio.
Dan Bárta is one of the most distinctive Czech singers of his generation. The joint path of Dan Bárta and the Robert Balzar Trio has lasted for more than a quarter of a century. Over that time, they have created a unique musical language that straddles the line between jazz, soul, and original songwriting, making them one of the most remarkable projects on the Czech music scene. Robert Balzar is among the most respected Czech double bassists and composers. His trio has earned renown not only on the domestic scene but also through collaborations with world-class jazz personalities, including John Abercrombie, Benny Golson, and Kurt Elling. Their partnership with Dan Bárta resulted in a distinctive acoustic project whose albums, Theyories and Live at the Box, received extraordinary acclaim from both listeners and critics.
The quartet's repertoire consists of original jazz interpretations of songs by artists who shaped Dan Bárta musically – from Björk and The Police to Jamiroquai, Led Zeppelin, and Joni Mitchell – complemented by their own work, primarily from Robert Balzar’s workshop. A characteristic feature of the concert is their exceptional synergy, the space for improvisation, and the ability to transform well-known songs into new, surprising musical stories. Stylistically, the project moves between modern jazz, pop, and chamber music.
