Municipal Theatre Varnsdorf

On August 23, 1956, the new theater in Varnsdorf was ceremoniously opened with Smetana's The Kiss. In the following years, a professional ensemble operated here under the name Městské oblastní divadlo Varnsdorf (Varnsdorf Municipal Regional Theater). A whole host of prominent acting personalities passed through it (e.g., Jan Teplý, the later long-time president of the Actors' Association). The 1962/63 season was the last in which a professional acting ensemble worked at our theater.
