THE MAIDENS' WAR (DÍVČÍ VÁLKA) – The authors, producers, and participating actors state that The Maidens' War is the most successful and most performed play in the Czech Republic. Its appeal lies primarily in the lightness of the genre, the hyperbole, the themes explored, and the acting cast.
The comedy was written by František Ringo Čech. He wrote it back in 1986, and since then, the comedy has been played continuously and audiences keep coming to see it. "I wrote The Maidens' War tailor-made for the Czech nation. It is primarily about the style of humor they relate to and the areas it touches upon, such as erotica and politics. Furthermore, it is a relaxing genre, within which we present a feast of the most beautiful women our downtrodden homeland possesses. The success of The Maidens' War is evidenced by packed halls all over our republic," says the author of the madcap comedy, which is based on an old legend by Alois Jirásek.
