Ilja Bílek: GLASS SCULPTURE

We cordially invite you to an encounter with the work of the prominent Czech glass artist Ilja Bílek (*1948), a graduate of the Specialized School of Glassmaking in Železný Brod and a student of Professor Stanislav Libenský at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.

During his rich professional career, he worked as a designer for the Železnobrodské sklo company, dedicated himself to independent artistic creation, and also passed on his experience as an educator. From 1996 to 2017, he led the glass studio at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem.

The work of Ilja Bílek is characterized by sensitive work with glass segments made of both fused and sheet glass. His sculptures are created as thoughtful compositions in which formal restraint, structural logic, and inspiration from architecture and natural structures are combined. The resulting works captivate with their purity, harmonious composition, and unique artistic expression.
