About this event
Create and release a computer game in six months.
Video Game Laboratory 1.0 is a six-month development program by the Liberec Video Game Laboratory (LVL), where participants experience how a real game studio operates – from the first decisions about the game's design to its completion and release.
The program is open to people aged 18 and over from the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland. Participation is free.
How will Video Game Laboratory 1.0 work?
Over the course of six months, a development team will be formed to work together on a single computer game under expert guidance.
Just like in a game studio, participants will divide into individual development areas based on their skills and focus:
ART
Visual and audio aspect of the game – how the game looks and sounds.
TECH
Programming and technical solutions – how the game works.
GAME DESIGN
Game mechanics and rules – what the player does and how the game is played.
PRODUCTION / QA / MARKETING
Development coordination, testing, final quality, and launching the game to players.
This is not a course where everyone creates their own practice project. The whole team works on one common game and brings it together to release.
Experience you can show off
The goal of Video Game Laboratory 1.0 is to offer an experience as close as possible to real work in game development. You will try out interdisciplinary collaboration, working on a shared assignment, team development, and responsibility for a specific part of the final game.
In the end, you won't just have a certificate or a school project, but a finished and released game that you helped develop and can include in your portfolio.
And if the team clicks and wants to continue? Video Game Laboratory 1.0 can be the beginning of further collaboration and your own game projects even after the program ends.
Why is Video Game Laboratory 1.0 being created?
The Liberec Video Game Laboratory wants to create conditions for the emergence and development of the gaming industry in the Liberec Region and the border triangle.
We want people interested in game development to not automatically have to leave elsewhere for experience and professional opportunities – and for Liberec and its surroundings to gradually become a place where one can gain experience, meet collaborators, and eventually work in the gaming industry.
Video Game Laboratory 1.0 is one of the steps towards creating such an environment.
