About this event
"About Chopin" is a solo piano concert where the music of Frédéric Chopin serves as a starting point for improvisation and entirely new musical narratives. Familiar nocturnes, preludes, mazurkas, and waltzes meet the contemporary language of the piano, jazz freedom, and original compositions by Maciej Tubis.
Maciej Tubis is a pianist, composer, and improviser who has been active on the Polish music scene for over 20 years. He has released numerous albums, played hundreds of concerts, and performed on stages in Poland and abroad. His music combines classical training with jazz improvisation and a contemporary, distinctive piano sound. He is also a Doctor of Arts and a lecturer at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź, and his artistic work has been awarded and recognized many times.
In recent years, he has released albums including "Into The Night", "All Your Fears, All Your Hopes", and the live album "Solo Live", showcasing an increasingly personal and minimalist direction in his work.
In "About Chopin", Tubis returns to the music that has accompanied him from the very beginning of his pianistic journey, yet he does not attempt to merely reproduce it. Recognizable Chopin motifs interweave with improvisation and original music, meaning each concert can unfold in a slightly different way.
This is Chopin treated not as a museum exhibit, but as living music — intimate, emotional, and open to whatever happens in the moment.
