Mary Ocher
About this event
Mary Ocher is coming to Großhennersdorf for the first time – with "Weimar", her new piano album and her most personal release to date. Between minimal music, chamber pop, and contemporary classical, she creates intimate, stripped-back songs that nonetheless unfold enormous political tension. The title references the Weimar Republic and the rise of fascism – while simultaneously bridging the gap to the present.
After extensive international tours and acclaimed releases – among others by The Guardian, The Quietus, taz, The Wire, FADER, and Libération – as well as a recent Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Ocher is at a special point in her career today. Her engagement with identity, fear, and belonging is gaining new urgency worldwide in the face of nationalism, censorship, and social fragmentation.
The Moscow-born and Tel Aviv-raised musician and author has worked with, among others, Mogwai, King Khan, Die Tödliche Doris, Felix Kubin, and Julia Kent. Her musical reference points range from Delia Derbyshire and Dorothy Ashby to Omar Khayyam.
Personal, political, and musically idiosyncratic
