EVERYTHING WE WANTED | Liberec Exhibition Markets 1960 - 1980

In 2026, the Liberec Exhibition Markets (LVT) celebrate seventy years since the first year of their modern history, and the MUZA North Bohemian Museum is reviving the LVT phenomenon through an exhibition featuring posters, printed materials, period photographs, and a whole range of other original artifacts associated with this event.

The exhibition focuses on the 1960s and 1970s – an era when the Liberec markets were breaking attendance records and the biggest stars of the show business of that time shone on their stages. It offers a number of examples of textile production, period clothing, and home furnishings that were on display at the exhibition grounds, with period exhibits from the museum supplemented by items purchased directly at the LVT.

LVT presented excellent products or prototypes from major domestic manufacturers and were also intended to allow for their purchase or at least ordering. However, the supply usually could not meet the huge customer demand, and furthermore, many of the exhibited products were intended only for export. Alongside the production of the most important textile and clothing factories, glass, jewelry, and home culture were also on display. The exhibition also reflects other product areas such as electric kitchen appliances, porcelain, plastic household products, clothing accessories, and more.

An integral part of the LVT was a rich accompanying program, and our exhibition cannot overlook this phenomenon either. Musical performances by leading singers and musicians of the cultural scene of that time, as well as fashion shows and live product demonstrations, helped shape the image of the LVT as one of the most significant national events of the summer season, which in its heyday was visited by hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic visitors.
