Pavel Werner (*1942) is one of the most significant figures in Czech glass art. A glass artist, designer, educator, and long-time director of the glassmaking school in Kamenický Šenov, he has dedicated his entire life to glass and its infinite possibilities.
He studied in Železný Brod and later at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under Professor Stanislav Libenský. Since the 1960s, he has focused on studio glass, particularly the technique of fused and cast glass sculpture, which he has experimented with and developed throughout his life. His work is characterized by expressive forms, the contrast of smooth and rough surfaces, and a fascinating combination of colored and clear glass. In his pieces, a precisely thought-out design meets chance and the elemental power of molten glass.
