Kulturfabrik Meda Mittelherwigsdorf (Meda Culture Factory)

Kulturfabrik Meda in Mittelherwigsdorf is a beautifully-restored Gründerzeit-era building with a history full of twists and turns, set against the stunning backdrop of the Zittau Mountains, close to Zittau itself. Once a factory producing pasta, furniture, and calendars, then a post-war refugee shelter, then left to fall into disrepair, it owes its survival today to a group of dedicated locals who brought it back to life. Now it's a genuinely vibrant hub for social and cultural pursuits, community, and the arts — the place to go for arthouse cinema, author readings, theatre performances and concerts, talks and debates, workshops, exhibitions, and a cozy little film bar to boot. The cinema and cultural programme are run by Kulturfabrik Meda e.V., a non-profit association which is always happy to welcome new members. The building sits just five minutes from Mittelherwigsdorf train station and is also home to guest rooms and holiday apartments, managed by Kulturfabrik Meda GbR.
