For more than a quarter of a century, OJV Dixie has been bringing the joy of traditional jazz, swing, and dixieland music. This seven-member band from Liberec carries on the best traditions of the New Orleans style, building on spontaneity, improvisation, and contagious musical energy. Their concert is an invitation to a time when jazz was primarily about fun and getting the audience dancing.
OJV Dixie builds on the long-standing tradition of the Vladimír Janský Dance Orchestra, which has been active in Liberec since 1980. The dixieland group itself was formed in 1998 as a more intimate ensemble of experienced musicians united by a shared love for traditional jazz. Since then, it has become a regular guest at concerts and social events on both the Czech and German sides of the border.
The band's repertoire consists of classic dixieland, swing standards, and well-known melodies from musicals. They are characterized by their lightness, musical synergy, and space for improvisation, which has been a natural part of jazz since its inception.
OJV Dixie has long-term collaborations with the Sächsische Dampfschiffahrt (Saxon Steamship Company), the Altmarkt Keller restaurant in Dresden, and the castle festivals in Proschwitz, for example. They are also known to local audiences from the traditional "Spanilá jízda" (Elegant Ride) along the Jára Cimrman cycle path in Tanvald, where they have been performing for many years.
The OJV Dixie concert will recall a time when jazz sounded on the streets of New Orleans and in dance halls all over the world. It will offer honest swing, an immediate atmosphere, and the joy of music that hasn't lost its energy even after more than a hundred years.
From 2 p.m., the Association for Hainewalde Castle offers coffee, cakes, and castle tours.
