"Vayter – Onward!" is the Yiddish translation of the program title with which the Caravan Orchestra & Choir will be performing on August 13, 2026, at 8:00 PM at the Freilichtbühne Weinau in Zittau. For "Vayter!", young musicians from Israel and Germany are coming together: Arab and Jewish music students from Haifa meet a diverse group of German music conservatory students. For three weeks – far removed from any politicization or polarization – they have worked together to create a program that combines Yiddish tonal systems (Shteyger) with Arabic maqamat, songs, dances, and rhythms. This year, the ensemble is also focusing on the connections between Yiddish music and traditions from the Ottoman heritage of Greece and Turkey. A musical bridge that sets a strong signal, especially in times of growing social tension.
The performance is part of the 9th Sechsstädtebundfestival "Kommen und Gehen" and is taking place in cooperation with the series "Via Regia – jüdisch – unterwegs" as part of TACHELES 2026.
