Two time levels and two perspectives intertwine to create a beguiling, multi-layered play between reality and fiction: Successful advertising filmmaker Elsa throws herself into her work after her mother's death, but is caught up by the grief she has pushed aside. In another time in the same city, successful author and director Raúl battles a creative crisis – and writes the very story that tells Elsa's life. A finely balanced story on the fragile border between life and art, what is experienced and what is imagined – despite the gravity of the themes, staged by Almodóvar with remarkable lightness.
