The Zittau Works were a front company for the Junkers aircraft factory in Dessau. Here, the Jumo engines for the Me 262, a jet-powered fighter aircraft of the Wehrmacht, were manufactured. In response to the bombing of Central Germany, production was relocated to the Zittau area in 1943/44. For this purpose, numerous factories in the region of what is now the tripoint of Germany, France, and Switzerland were requisitioned. A barracks in Kleinschönau, now Sieniawka, was expanded to form the core of the production complex. Thousands of prisoners were forced to work there under inhumane conditions. Production began at the end of 1944. Large parts of the central complex still stand today.
